CROSS POST FROM AGNSW

County, Culture Community: a new education kit for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art collection

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is pleased to announce the launch a major new Education Kit for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art collection on Friday March 27.

The launch will be in the form of a Teachers Professional Development Day featuring artist talks by Judy Watson and Richard Bell, curator's talk, a discussion of the role of the art centre and related issues such as carpetbagging and re-sale royalty rights by a representative from Papunya Tula art centre, and strategies for using the kit to support classroom teaching practice with Visual Arts, Aboriginal Studies and History teachers.

Each teacher attending the day will receive a free copy of the Education Kit, valued at $45.00, as well as lunch and morning tea.

See here for further information and booking procedures.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ARTEXPRESS?

No Hugging, No Learning

A blog within a blog - here is an interesting article about Artexpress.
HSC Visual Arts students work in a structured, pressured and restrictive environment unlike anything outside High School. Despite this some of the work holds up pretty well in any context and deserves to be acknowledged, not just by proud mums, dads, Teachers and bestest buddies but by the agencies of the art world that some students aspire to. And in the process we have an opportunity to learn more about our own practice along the way.
Your thoughts???

BREAKFAST [@ARTEXPRESS] ANYONE??

This year there have been some significant changes to the format of Artexpress.

You may have noticed that the opening is during the day, is invite only and that it primarily focuses on the artists in the show and follows the format of the D&T opening at the Powerhouse.

Also that the AGNSW has provided a special Art Teacher's Preview breakfast on Saturday 14th February 2009 from 9 - 10am.

For more info and bookings go here.

The exhibition itself also has a new home (for 2009) in the Yiribana space, which has enabled more large BOWs to be displayed in full.

There are also a plethora of online resources, including video interviews with a variety of exhibiting artists [peer2peer] and a blog for students and visitors to comment about their experiences.

So come along, meet colleagues, view the show and enjoy!

Also don't forget the Artexpress Teacher's Day on 6th March!

Info here.
