Respond NOW! Be heard!!

DO NOT let this sub-standard curriculum get by you - it is your career/students that will suffer!

OUR FIRST E-BULLETIN

E Bulletin Issue One

THE ARTS DRAFT SHAPE PAPER RELAEASED

The Arts Draft Shape Paper has been released.

It is a frightening document which proposes a participatory approach to The Arts rather than any deep learning! Visual Arts in NSW, will be reduced from 100 hours to 13 hours!

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD! GO TO THE ACARA WEBSITE AND SUBMIT A RESPONSE.

THE ARTS SURVEY

It is important for the future of Visual Arts in Australia that this approach is rejected! We want an aspirational and not a regressive curriculum!

We are happy to change to something equal or better than what we have now - but this is NOT it!

Go to the VADEA website for much more information.

Conference success

Wow, what a conference!

Such a wonderful mix of issues and perspectives expressed by so many outstanding contributors in art education and the Visual Arts. So many ideas to mull over the next few days.

I love Visual Arts...

For me, the conference further concreted my love for my teaching subject, and further highlighted the urgent need to preserve the subject for future generations. There is so much to lose in compromising the quality of the subject and so much to gain in moving forward.

Count me in for the work we must do to make sure the National Curriculum values our subject as much as we do.

I look forward to updates on the Blog site, Face Book, Twitter and the brand new and very beautiful VADEA website.

WEBQUEST

Last year I did some in-school inservice run by Macquarie University's ICT Centre. The course was called eMints and on the whole was pretty useless, but.............we did do one thing that worked well and that I have used with my students, both last year and more fully this year.

It is a webquest and the students were required to make a "scavenger hunt" style postcard that represented interactivity. In addition to this they had to present all their research and evaluations etc in my Webquest and effectively it has meant that each student has built a "mini" personal website.

If you would like to know more, click our VA logo above or have a look HERE. You can view without signing in:)

WOMEN'S WORK?

Apparently the Biennale about to open at The Whitney (NYC) is being deemed the Women's Biennale as half of the artists being shown are female. Read more from The New York Times (excerpt below)
Nonetheless, more than half the artists represented are women, a record for the Whitney’s marquee exhibition. Bonami and Gary Carrion-Murayari, his associate curator, say the number was happenstance. They intend their survey, titled simply “2010,” only to reflect the tenor of American art right now, which they see as “somber and intimate.” Not feminine.

AMAZING RESOURCE FROM THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART (NYC)

From: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/pcgn/ho_1992.5147.htm

Just cruising The Met site (as you do) and am again amazed at the resources there. This one is great as not only is there information on periods of art etc but they are accompanied by thematic essays.
Here is some info about the Heilbrunn Timeline and of course a link!
The Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, funded by the Heilbrunn Foundation, New Tamarind Foundation, and Zodiac Fund, is a chronological, geographical, and thematic exploration of the history of art from around the world, as illustrated by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. The Metropolitan Museum's curatorial, conservation, and education staff research and write the Timeline, which is an invaluable reference and research tool for students, educators, scholars, and anyone interested in the study of art history and related subjects. First launched in 2000, the Timeline now extends from prehistory to the present day. It will continue to expand in scope and depth, and reflect the most up-to-date scholarship.
Go exploring through images, maps and essays..........enjoy!

ON YOUR WAY TO NYC??

From MoMA website: William Kentridge. Drawing from Stereoscope 1998–99. Charcoal, pastel, and colored pencil on paper, 47 1/4 x 63" (120 x 160 cm).

New Kentridge exhibition about to open at MoMA NYC.
Should be worth a visit...........even online!
